Overall it was agreed the course was pretty tough. The downriver leg of the race started at the confluence with Big Hungry creek, at the normal put-in of the Narrows. The finish line was on river right below chief. It was agreed that the monkey should be kept in a cage for the race due to this horrible drought we are in and low levels on the green. The slalom course started with the seal launch below gorilla, into an immediate upstream ferry around gate one. Gates 2 and 3 were located in the first slide below gorilla, with 3 providing quite a bit of difficulty for a lot of racers. Gates 4, 5, and 6 were below Nies’ Pieces and involved some strong ferrying over boils and a strong eddy line. Gate 6 was a challenge for everyone and the decision to hit it upstream or downstream was one of the most hotly debated lines of the day. Finally, gate 7 was hung in the middle of powerslide sending racers deep into the meat of the hole. A strong sprint to the ledge above rapid transit proved a worthy finish.

Generally, the racers kept it stylie and clean despite the fact that many had never even seen a slalom gate before. There were a few racerheads who showed up however and demonstrated some true slalom style.

In the end, most people were just happy to be out enjoying the rain and making it to the finish line.
