The Romain Complex (part 1)
The crew consisted of Erik “with a K” Boomer, Willie “with a beard” Kern, Toby “deep pockets” McDermott, Fred “Fire Starter” Coriell, Boyce “Blue Steel” Greer, John “spare tire” Grace, Greg “The Energizer Bunny” Hanlon and Jake “triple chapped” Whitcomb.
We will start this story about five minutes after pulling up to the float plane dock, the pilot immediately informed us that if we wanted to leave any time today the plane would have to leave within forty five minutes. So battered and beaten by the thousands of miles of being stuffed in the “Coffin”(a space created in “Deep pockets” Jetta TDI by leaning the backseat down creating a crawlspace into the trunk that you could sprawl your road worn carcass out to relieve you of endless hours in the seat that wont recline). We hurriedly tore through grocery bags of food and spread it out, before we could even get our bags packed the first flight was off. We soared over endless bogs, ponds and lakes as we left the ocean and pierced into the vast wilderness. The landing was as soft as the 1/4 inch plywood which comprised the floor of the coffin we just crawled out of before cramming ourselves in the back of the beaver. All I could think of, at least for the time being, was I don’t have to be crammed in any tin cans for a while.
Here are a few pictures taken by Erik Boomer of the plane ride in.
- We had to level out some depressions in the sand for our tents.
