Birthday Canyon, Homathko River

Triston McClaran, of Idaho, rescues a lost watershed bag from a nasty eddy. Photograph taken by Erik Boomer, September 2006
Here are a few thumbnails that help set the stage.

Ryan Casey thought it was really funny to watch the carnage.

This was my third time down the homathko river, a pristine river running through some of the biggest mountains in BC. We had fairly low water which made some of the upper rapids on this run tougher than usual. After boomer and myself ran this rapid we were on river right capturing memories. Each group that came down had some difficulties, with flat water below this gorge for a quarter mile, there was little danger of loosing gear. The tension was off. I had just gotten a great clip of carnage from some big water idaho boys trying to run a technical section with some creeky moves. One swim and Tristan’s drybag save later boomer caught my reaction to the whole scene.
