Jeff 'Freight Train' Paine on his way to gate 3

It was a beautiful day with golden stroke after golden stroke taken through The Green River Gorge.

Chris Roberts giving it the eye of the tiger. Chris was the only racer to get 0 penalties on a GS run.

The Giant Slalom is a two stage combined event. Stage 1 was a down river sprint from the confluence of Big Hungry and The Green Rivers. Corey Volt in his Dagger Green Boat easily won this leg with a time of 9:10. Pat Keller was second in his RPM followed by Toby ‘The Legend Of’ MacDermott in his Jefemix with a 9:24 and 9:32 respectively. The rest of the finish times are below.

Adriene greasing the very difficult second gate.

Next the racers moved down to scout the gates at Gorilla. Everyone started on river left below Pencil Sharpener in reverse of the sprint finishing order. This gave the fastest racers the advantage of being able to watch paddlers on the course…no one gets a practice run. All racers were given two runs through The Giant Slalom that were combined together.

Entry Fee: 0$ It’s free and all entries get free beer at the after party/LVM premiere at Green River Adventures.

Registration Information: Please pre-register HERE online…you will win a free copy of LVM! Otherwise meet at the takeout of The Green River Narrows parking lot. Registration is open on race day from 8-9AM, Saturday July 3rd. Come one come all!

Boat Restrictions: Open class bring what you want. Only stipulation here is you have to race the same boat for the down river sprint and The Giant Slalom.

Start Time: Please register online here!. Registration will be open at the takeout from 8-9AM July 3rd. We will have a racer meeting at The Put In Parking Lot at 11AM. The first racer starts at 12PM at the confluence of Big Hungry and The Green.

How It Works: The Giant Slalom is a combination of two races, a down river sprint, and a giant slalom through four gates.
The Down River Sprint will start at 12PM at the confluence of Big Hungry and The Green River. The finish will be on river right below Zwicks. This leg of the race will equal half of each racers total score. The top 20 from this event will get two runs on The Giant Slalom course that starts above Pencil Sharpener and ends at the bottom of Powerslide. If you aren’t comfortable racing through Gorilla no worries, you just need to understand the highest you can possibly place is 21st.

The Giant Slalom leg of the race will begin on river left directly above Gorilla and the course will navigate four gates down to the bottom of Powerslide. Each racer will get two runs which will be combined to count for the remaining 50% of the competitors score. A missed gate is a 50 second penalty and a touched gate is a 5 second penalty. The gates will be mainly single pole gates where red indicates a gate the paddler has to pass to the right of, and green will be a gate the paddler has to pass to the left of. This is where boat selection becomes crucial. Sure the long boat will give you an advantage in the down river sprint, but will you still be able to make the tighter moves in The Giant Slalom portion of the event? Obviously it is up to the racer and we are sure this will be a big discussion point in the coming days.

We will have more video and information coming this week and please email us at lvmvideo@gmail.com with any questions.
