ever visited a country that didn’t have a McDonalds?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

A year has passed since I visited the Buddha’s birth country, and I cannot wait to return.
The Himalayas play host to all types of ultra-classic rivers that are just there for the slaying. It’s a long journey to Kathmandu and quite a trip once you are there; so bring along a good book or two, a deck of cards, some spare undies, and an adventurous appetite.
Get yourself a copy of Peter Knowles’s book: Whitewater Nepal, a plane ticket (Virgin flies to Delhi and doesn’t charge for kayaks), a motivated homie or two, fly over there and be somebody.

LVMTV :: Monday Morning Madhouse 1/20/2009; Big Creek Rescue, Thule Bheri Expedition

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

First off, appologies for the technical difficulties the last few days. This has been posted, deleted, re-posted, etc. Thanks to John Grace's computer science degree, now it works, and you can subscribe to this podcast on iTunes and it will work on your iPod and iPhone.
So the Monday Morning Madhouse is here to stay. This week we have Christian Magallanes in the studio talking about a harrowing rescue situation he was a part of on Big Creek in the Smokies. It involved a swimmer being submerged under a log for over 12 minutes and the rescue effort which took place to save his life. Fortunately he made it relatively unscathed, but there are some good lessons to be learned here so take a listen. Mr. Magallanes also gives a brief account of a recent expedition he completed on the Thule Bheri River located in one of the most remote regions of Nepal. Hope you like it, we'll be on time next monday with the next installment.
