This week, John, Woody, and Will talk about some issues facing many rivers in Canada. The Stikine watershed is threatened by over 60 open pit copper mines, and surrounding rivers will have to be dammed to generate enough power to accommodate these mines. On the other side of the country, rivers such as the Romaine are threatened by massive hydropower development which effectively dams the entire main stem of the river. The Romaine is already on it’s way to becoming Lac Romaine, however there are many other rivers in the region which are under review for hydropower development. LVM 32 is going to show you some of these places and the ‘progress’ which has been made there. Check out Sacred Headwaters, the Romaine Alliance, Hydro Quebec’s Romaine Project Site.

This week John, Woody, and Will are back again discussing what they saw on recent trips to the Romaine and Stikine rivers. Both of these incredible wilderness areas face being lost to mining and hydropower. Here about what they saw and stories from their trips.
