Long Pointy Boat Boofy....Gold!

Hey guys,

Here’s my submission for the April Golden Stroke contest. The photos are from the Over the Falls Festival at Ohiopyle in 2009 taken by Nicole Kruse. At the time, the biggest vertical drop that I’d run was about 6 feet, so Ohiopyle was stepping it up for me. Up first is me getting ready to go gold, then enjoying the ride. Check out the LVM sticker in front of the Pyranha logo – that should be good for something, right!!!

Cheers!

Nutty Gold

oh what a feeling tonights going to be a good good niiigghhtt, tonights..

Dear LVM, I have been enjoying all the photos folks have been sending in and thought i might as well get into it. I do need a new paddle after all and after perusing some of my photos, I figured I had a decent shot. there are four photos attatched and since i have no idea which order they will appear in I will just describe them. maybe ya’ll can put them in the proper order.

Thanks, Gabriel.

1. Here we have J.C. Rain Riding a Golden Low Brace. Note the look of focus as he navigates the playboat through class V (photo: Gabriel Latini)

2. The one that could win it! here we have the Buddha a.k.a. Paul Bartholic Golden stroking through Go Left and Die on Turtle Creek. This Stroke sent him flying through the slot super fast and clean. Note the Right Hand, Now that is Golden.(photo: Gabriel Latini)

3. Here is a shot of myself running the last Rapid on Turtle Creek. I bet if the level was higher this could win but it’s still gold all the same. This photo was actually published in the Asheville Citizen times so even if it doesn’t win me a paddle it will still make my moms Scrapbook.(photo: Bryan Owen)

4. And the last photo… well they can’t all be Golden Strokes, can they? (photo: Courtney Leigh Johnson)

Crain Gold Indeed!

Hi – here are some strokes of gold, taken just for LVM.

The first is Matt Mackinnon on the first Rutherford waterfall at the peak of snowmelt last summer. The second is Maxi Kniewasser showing everyone how to run the superboof on the Grass in NY, and the last is of Bob Butler – you know where.

Enjoy!

A golden Gorge Indeed

Whattup LVM!

First, thanks for inventing the golden strokes of April contest. It rocks! I am thoroughly enjoying seeing new photos of folks getting it done day-in, day-out. And just how many golden phrases does LVM have?

On to the photos. Since this pictorial competition could use a bit more Rocky Mountain representation, here’s what I have for you today: (1) Joe Keck placing a crucial golden stroke on Deliberation Corner in The Box, (2) yours truly getting ready to yell “FUZZY LITTLE BUNNY” on Vallecito Creek, and (3) me finding gold on Double Trouble on the Big South.

Hope to see you guys in New Mexico and Colorado again this year. Cheers,

Alex Clayden

Rafts are Gold...?

Dear Golden Stroke Overlord,

Its been really nice the last few weeks waking up to fresh gold every morning. Cant say that this one is winner compared to all the other great shots of late, but i wanted to share a break-down paddle gstroke. This somewhat golden goldy is at Sunshine, just moments after i broke my paddle/pride at powerslide. Never…ever…ever, catch an edge peeling out of the eddy in p-slide…write that down. A few bangs to the head later I was in the pool rolling up with a nicely shortened stick and a palm full of carbon fiber splinters. Enter Sherpa b-down and a little duct tape on the hand and we were back in business. Thanks to Ian Buckley for having the foresight to carry all kinds of extra (useful) stuff in his boat and to Jake Mitchell for the shot. And of course, to mama green for keeping us honest every now and then.

Salut,

T. Brandt

You are my sunshine my only sunshine you make me happy when Gold

April 4-20 Afghani Gold, Last Day to Submit

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Today is the last day for submissions…get to work. Now gold.
First we have a golden shower submitted by Ryan Allen.

Here is a old photo of my golden stroke taken by Brent Meadows (photo 103)
and also a newer photo of a subterrainian gc photo taken by Nick Murphy

Taste It!,

very nice

ohhh yes, golden nastyness, aaahhhhhhh

one more of Jeremy Pou golden stroking this first D.

You may say why has noone run this little 8′ drop before? It is due to most of the water then drops 25′ into an underground jumble of rocks with only a sliver of water leading into the next drop ( which has been run) that goes into a sweet boof to slide.

gold gold gold gold gold

Now for a little Gold outside of the lower 48.

Here’s a set from a few places I’ve been recently.

first photo (file name ‘dan’) is Dan Dixon paddling his Pirouette on the Piatua river in Ecuador

second one (Diego) is Diego Robles also on the Piatua

Third we have JD Batove on the Upper Willow in Alaska doing a race for daylight run, we took off the river around midnight.

Last is Zach Stipe on the put-in falls of the Hollin river in Ecuador, a 2 day class IV remote jungle run.

Thanks,

Brandon Gonski

Next a pile of photos by Mark Taylor. Gold.

I really want to stop having to borrow paddles so I’m gonna just keep sending them your way. First sequence is me dropping Big Boy. Next up is Josh Wall firing through mortal combat. Second sequence is what happens when you catch an edge trying to wheel groove tube. I would call it a golden-brown stroke because you’re like “oh crap but then something cool comes out of a mistake and you don’t eat rocks at the bottom. Not intentional but cool nonetheless. Both photo sequences by Josh Wall and Mortal Combat by me.

Good Lines,

Mark

Once again we will finish with a little video. Not sure if this has anything to do with golden stroking, but enjoy none the less. Thanks Weaver for the video and until tomorrow happy 4-20.

Here is a little more eye candy from LVM #33…a packed to the hilt issue. This segment, brought to you by Dagger features young Jedi Pat Keller doing what he does. For more Dagger action come see Evan Garcia’s premiere of ‘Dream Result’ at the Asheville Pizza Company, Thursday, April 1. 187 feet of world record meat hucking on the big screen!

Pat Keller has been on the river since he was 3 years old. A two time Green Race Winner, Teva Mountain Games Champion, and all around multi-sport athlete Pat is easily argued as one of the best paddlers in the world. This is an action packed segment with Pat showing us how it is done. Available in full on LVM #33.

Werner Golden Stroke “tis the season”

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

This just sent in! Feel free to send us your golden pics or video and we will place them front and center.

“Hey Guys,

Those Longboats are fast! I saw stacks of em driving around on 26 Monday and Tuesday. This weekend was my fall Break 11/16-11/20 I missed out on a weekend of 60% Green flows and took advantage of the dance party over at LEAF Saturday and Sunday then kicked it over to the Saluda to wrap up the weekend on the Green. I took some noobs down for a first time on Monday so i didn’t see many Golden Strokes but i did see a lady swim Cheif! Then Tuesday Duke Energy graced us with some last minute water and i was able to knock out doubles with Will Stubblefield. Needless to say i saw quite a few Golden Strokes hanging out with him. I think the culmination of the weekend was my second lap on Tuesday. It was fast, not much talking, quick portages and no safety meeting at sunshine. Anyway thought i would send in a couple shots from my fall adventure. Hope everybody is getting out there and taking advantage of all this water I myself am looking forward to dawn patrol before school.

Will Stubblefield is in the long boat
Brian (unsure of last name) in the Magnum
Blue Boat not sure

All photos by myself

Cheers
Arlyn”
