After a few days of fun on the Embudo, we cruised north to Taos to check out the Upper Box at good flow. We found a beautiful basalt gorge with around 2,500cfs raging through it. She took some names (Will and Rob) but for the most part was big waves and clean lines. Mark Miller really came into his own that day, leading the troops into battle. Ryan Howe, a Colorado boy, showed us down and did some gettin’ down too. Here’s some action:
Today we talk with Jeff Snyder about one of his chosen modes for river travel, striding. For those that aren’t familiar with striding, it is simply paddling down river while standing up. I’ll let Jeff explain… Run Time: 17:57. This is a mostly audio podcast. Enjoy.
Seth Chappell, long time C1 ripper, humbling us all with a little offside boof action at Grace Under Pressure on the Potomac. This ain’t yer mama’s boof.
At last, the long awaited arrival of C1ing at the top of the LVM list of priorities. Actually, we were going to interview Jeff Snyder about striding but that got delayed until next week. So here you have it, a short interview to find out why people C1. It is what it is. Run Time: ~10 min.
Here’s a little preview from what we’ve been working on for LVM 29: PNW vs. WVA. This footage was sent to us from Matt Fithian and Isaac Levinson, two mid-atlantic chaps who seem to know what’s what in West By God. If you like this, go ahead and Subscribe Now to make sure you get LVM 29 in time. I have to go now, Norbert the office puppy is eating my shoes…
This week, Teva’s Pat Keller gives us some thoughts on why he and so many other people love to go out and test their limits on wilderness kayaking adventures. Hike away from the roadside runs, get out into the cut, and find out why so many people love to experience the feeling of being in the wilderness. If nothing else, I hope this inspires everyone to get out and kick it in the mountains. LVM 29 is coming together and has some good accounts of adventure kayaking on the Thule Bheri river in Nepal, as well as some more continental locales. Run Time: 16:03.
First off, appologies for the technical difficulties the last few days. This has been posted, deleted, re-posted, etc. Thanks to John Grace's computer science degree, now it works, and you can subscribe to this podcast on iTunes and it will work on your iPod and iPhone.
So the Monday Morning Madhouse is here to stay. This week we have Christian Magallanes in the studio talking about a harrowing rescue situation he was a part of on Big Creek in the Smokies. It involved a swimmer being submerged under a log for over 12 minutes and the rescue effort which took place to save his life. Fortunately he made it relatively unscathed, but there are some good lessons to be learned here so take a listen. Mr. Magallanes also gives a brief account of a recent expedition he completed on the Thule Bheri River located in one of the most remote regions of Nepal. Hope you like it, we'll be on time next monday with the next installment. Subscribe on iTunes for free!
We like to save our best content for our subscriber DVDs, but wanted to share this piece with everyone. Right now in Canada there are literally hundreds of dams being built from the East to West Coast of the country. Other than to raise awareness we have no idea how to stop/slow it down. If you ever wanted to kayak in Canada best make your move.
